Back To The Grindhouse
The film charting the history of the video nasty, Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide, is one of the finest homegrown documentaries of recent years; its creators, Marc Morris and Jake West, are as knowledgeable as anyone in or around our business as to the history of the exploitation film.
While Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide skillfully blended both humour and some far more serious points, the duo’s latest outing through their Nucleus Films imprint is a far more straightforward outing.
Grindhouse Trailer Classics 3 is the third release from Morris and West that lovingly compiles the best – and worst – of exploitation cinema, pulling together trailers from obscure, cult titles that are often long forgotten (or best forgotten for that matter).
The series is now something of a franchise, this latest title features, as did its predecessors, a wealth of excerpts highlighting films from the genre that has been brought back to a wider public consciousness thanks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino, whose personal favourite Black Mama, White Mama is one of the 50 plus trailers featured on this release.
“Expect to see more trailers which were typical of American Grindhouse cinemas and Drive-Ins,” says Marc Morris. “Genres covered include Blaxploitation, Sexploitation, Women in Prison, Hicksploitation, Eurocult, Biker etc. For this volume we’ve dug deeper into the vaults and have unearthed some real gems you won’t have seen anywhere else.”
The title is due out on December, 5 and here, in The Doberman Gang, we offer up a look at one of its more outlandish moments (and one of the few we can safely put up here)…
