The Eyes Have It
Another week, as we remarked on our Twitter account this week, another Guillermo del Toro film. With Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark due in cinemas this autumn and another title he boasts an executive producer credit on, Puss In Boots, also due to arrive before 2011, the multi-hyphenate is hugely prolific, more so in a writing or producing role rather than directing.
But despite putting his name and getting involved with everything from Kung Fu Panda 2 to dark drama such as Biutiful, there’s no dip in quality from the native Mexican.
Take, if you will, the next DVD and Blu-ray release added to his extensive CV, Julia’s Eyes, due from Studiocanal (né Optimum) on September 12.
It’s more a traditional thriller rather than the fantastical horror or fantasy of The Orphanage or Pan’s Labyrinth, which he also directed as well as produced, and follows the eponymous heroine, whose sister has committed suicide after losing her sight. As Julia’s own vision starts to fade, she begins to question her own sanity.
Resembling more a Hitchcock film than one of del Toro’s own outings, Julia’s Eyes features a tour de force performance from Belen Rueda (who also appeared in the del Toro-produced The Orphanage) as both Julia and her sister, it’s a commercial proposition; enough for Studiocanal to invest in TV advertising for the title… Here’s its spot, due to air around the release.Tags: studiocanal, Trailers, tv spot
